Drive-in Movies

 _____
The first double-feature drive-in movies I saw as a child.
drive-in
Remember those big ugly speakers you had to put int the car window,
leaving it cracked just enough to let plenty of hungry mosquitos in?

My favorit movie as a kid --didn't know what "stop-motion" was and didn't care!
Cowboys vs. Dinosaurs --awesome!

In junior high school, I was in the 76'ers Drum & Bugle Corp. This was a wondeful thing for a kid, compete with friends, be part of a team, and see a little bit of the world ... from an old broken-down school bus.

Close encounters with the rich and famous

Interviewed them during a rehersal for an article in my high school newspaper

Had drinks with Ted and the entire gang after winning
the New York Democratic Presidental Primary in 1980.

Arnold Horshack, real name Ron Palillo
Bumped into him at the pizza place outside Dirty Harry's in Key West

Brought his own huge knife and fork to dinner, understandably.
He was one of the most gentle souls I've ever met.
He also had the greatest laugh I've ever heard.

Muhammed Ali
From his limo in Key West, he asked about places to eat.

Leonard Bernstein
Was quite a character, especially with a few drinks in him

At a party in Big Pine Key, I arrived late and was only able
to join him for a last song --Changes in Latitudes

Enjoyed playing tennis with some of them the day after their

despite a lengthy black-out in the middle of the show.

Nearly ran over Mr. King with my car as he bolted across a street
in Boston, and he still gave me a friendly wave.

Al Sharpton
Surrounded by his entourage, asked if I was going to vote
for him in an upcoming NY election. My reply ... "Sorry Al, I'm from Boston"!

I met Chuck Norris at the U.S. Grand Nationals Karate Tournament
--my first tournament as a Black Belt
